Skinny Monkey Explained:

We came up with Skinny Monkey as our website name because it combines both of our nicknames. For those of you who know us, you know why we have those nicknames...for the rest of you, don't worry your pretty little heads about it.

And oh yeah...

I graduated.

Not sure that was stated anywhere. Low key graduation, finally done, 2 and a half years later. School has taken all the fun out of reading and writing. Including blogging.  I'm sure I'll get over it. Just give it some time.

Meanwhile, you can expect random snippits of thought as long as our attention span...Bunny!

Autumn

Holy crap, where did October go?

We are already nearly finished with November and I'm still thinking it's September. Sooooo not ready for the holidays, which start NEXT WEEK.

You know what that means... Smith House Pumpkin Roll. This weekend we will be baking fools. I'm told Thanksgiving isn't the same without our Pumpkin Roll.

More updates to come, folks. Hope everyone is well.

Is this thing still on?

Oh my gaw...it works still. You guys are still here. You'd think with this huge gap between posts would be due to some big extravagant and possibly luxurious reasons--but alas, 'tis not. So what is it that we've been doing that has kept us from our beloved Skinny Monkey? A little bit of this, and a little bit of that. And nothing really worth mentioning.

Summer was very busy, so Autumn is about wrapping up projects outside, with vehicles, to the house, etc. Since I've finished school I find myself most evenings wondering why I have this phantom anxiety that makes me think I should be researching a paper, writing or editing.

Since school took so much love out of writing and reading I haven't picked up a fiction book or cracked open any of my many manuscripts. But, I hold a second, shiny degree now.

Vin, on the other hand has been a busy fool with outdoor trips, vehicle restorations and well-deserved hobbying.

We're just taking care of family for now and hanging out, enjoying the cool crisp evenings. Hope you all are doing very well!

What we did on our summer vacation

It's been an action-packed summer, hence why not a whole lot of activity on here. Sorry about that, folks! Yours truly will be sure to check in with you more often. So!  With a lot of traveling under out belt and many home projects out of the way, let me tell you what we did.

The summer started off with our vacation to Bodega Bay during the Memorial Day holiday where we had the best fresh crab ever. Then, we took our travels to Crescent City during the 4th of July and were accosted by grumpy old men, but were treated to the best damn firework show ever. Ferris was a little mad at us, but he got over it.

We also reaped a bounty of a reward from our garden we started back in February. It's starting to wind down now. I ripped out the melons, squashes and zucchini as they stopped producing a while ago and were now only attracting pill bugs, ants and aphids. We have carrots and salad greens still booming. I cut back the tomatoes and will be turning the remainder of them into sauce.

We were able to fix the entry way from the water damage that occured a few years ago. Something else Ferris was mad at, but now he is a happy camper. We also painted the kitchen, something we've wanted to do for a while now. Vin is also working on our sidegate. Can't wait to show you the masterpiece that displays his welding prowess.

As the season starts to wind down and we prepare for autumn, we can honestly say it was a fun and rewarding summer.

Hope all of you enjoyed yours as well.

Historically speaking...

Memorial Day two years ago, we bought a car. Memorial Day the next year, we painted our bedroom. Labor Day Last year, we bought a truck.  Labor Day this year?

Painting, construction, but no vehicle purchasing.

Three Day Weekends were made for this.

Update coming soon!
