Friends Indeed

True friendship is like sound health; the value of it is seldom known until it be lost. - Charles Caleb Colton

This year has already started off in wealth. No, we didn't win the lottery. Well, of sorts. Not the monetary kind. It seems 2009 has become the Year of Friends. Friends are like the family you get to pick. I'm blessed with a wonderful family, and so is Vin so peppering life with great friends is truly a blessed life.

A long time ago, we lost touch with a great couple who relocated out of state. For a long time, every weekend was spent with our friends, the Hales who, in their friendship I learned how to ride a dirtbike and rollerblade.  Nothing like shedding skin to build great bonds!  We took many road trips together, had lots of fun and in the hills and forests riding.  Through the Hales we discovered our love of American Bulldogs. They left behind a legacy for Vin & I. After we lost contact we were sad and missed them greatly, but this year we were able to reconnect.  They still live out of state, but what with internet and such - long distance doesn't seem to exist. Although, internet and phones is a poor substitute for hugs, beer and laughter.  I think we're just lucky to have met up with them again.

Maybe it's because of the times, but folk seem to be re-examining and appreciating the simple things in life. House parties, fire pits and barbeques. Over the weekend we hung out with some of Vinny's old buddies from his younger years and it was fun catching up, meeting up and hanging out with those guys. And hearing Sonya's drunken slurs about her numb lips. Or Lumb nips. Whichever.

Having a strong family is like a hardy meal that warms your soul. Having awesome friends to share and laugh at your trials and tribulations and ultimately hold a mirror up to remind you of who you are and they love you anyway, is the spice that makes its enjoyable.
