Year of the Project

This year is also going to be a year of projects. Finishing our outdoor projects such as the vegetable garden, a garden bench and all that maintaining green things requires, we've also given ourselves an impressive indoor project list as well. We're finally at a place where we have the resources to do what we want/need to the inside.

It would seem Vin got the mulberry trees trimmed just in time because now the weather isn't exactly friendly to climbing around in rain-slippery trees with a large, sharp blade. We're planning on a barrel vegetable garden this year - with the hopes of getting free ones from the wine club we belong to, but if all else fails the nurseries around here usually have some great deals.

With the mulberry tree branch mulch (we bought a wood chipper, and now, every time we use it we say in the accent  used in the movie Fargo.), we created a ground cover for various parts of the yard where weeds grow rampant.

Last year, right before the weather finally went south, we planted lavendula angustofolia - the best lavender to use for making essential oils for soaps and such. Since they haven't had much time to grow, I'm hoping the season starts out mild so they get big enough to harvest this year. So, with four species of lavender hopefully something will come out of them besides just dried stalks.

Also, we've more herbs than we'll use so, if anyone interested in sage, rosemary, or chocolate mint - please let us know!
